Before you get in touch
To help us help you, we have some pre-contact guidance notes for you.
Who can enquire?
You can contact us:
- for yourself
- for a partner, parent, relative or friend
- while planning support after an illness or change in circumstances
- if you are an unpaid carer looking for planned respite
- as a professional, with the person’s knowledge and appropriate consent
If you are contacting us for someone else, please tell us whether they know about the enquiry and the best way for us to involve them.
What should I tell you?
You only need to share enough for an initial conversation. It helps to know:
- who the support is for
- their town or postcode
- the kind of help that may be needed
- how often support might be useful
- when you hope support could begin
- whether support is private or council-arranged (under which SDS
Option), or whether you need our advice on options - the safest and easiest way to contact you
Please do not email detailed medical records. We can explain what information is needed if the conversation progresses.
Don’t worry if you do not have all the above information. This is for guidance only and we are happy to start the conversation and help you find the best way forward.
Take the first step
Tell us a bit about your support needs and we’ll get in touch to take you through what happens next. You have the option to make initial contact by calling us, sending an email or by completing the online enquiry form below.

How support can be arranged and funded
Private support
If you or your family will be funding support, you can come directly to us. We will explain what we can provide, our current availability, plan visit rotas and schedules and provide cost estimates, before you decide.
There is no obligation to proceed simply because you have made an enquiry.
Council-arranged support
If you may be eligible for publicly funded personal care, your local authority will assess your needs and explain the available Self-directed Support options. We can provide advice around the Self-Directed Support options and can include council administration requirements for certain SDS options as part of our service.
An enquiry to Angus & Mearns Support is not a council assessment and does not guarantee public funding.
Council social care contacts
If you live in Angus
Angus Council’s First Contact service provides information, advice and access to community care services for people who do not already have a care manager or service.

If you live in the Mearns
Laurencekirk, Johnshaven, St Cyrus and Marykirk are within Aberdeenshire. Aberdeenshire Council can arrange an adult social care assessment and explain its Self-directed Support and charging arrangements.
